GOOD WORK IN BOTH SECTIONS. WINTER HOLIDAY WANTED IN JUNE The monthly meeting of the Manaia school committee was held on Wednesday evening. There were present Messrs. 0. T. Parry (chairman), J. Crompton, P. Instone, G. Butler, B. Bloor, H. Silby and L. Laursen. The headmaster (Mr. J. Browning) reported that the rolls for the primary and secondary departments were 215 and 48, the average attendances for the month being 203 and 45.3. Both departments, despite many breaks, had done creditable work. In the manual departments the keenest interest was being shown. Arrangements had been made for the boys to visit the State farm during the first week of the second term. The pupils of the dressmaking class were progressing very well. A change in the work would be made at the end of June, when handicraft in -the day school would require to be provided for. The school secured second place in the processional marching competition at the silver jubilee celebration. It was decided to purchase . a supply of educational books for the secondary department. The secretary was instructed to write to the education .board’s architect inviting him to inspect the school to disits needs. . A letter was received from the South Taranaki School Committees’ Association notifying that the annual meeting would be held at Okaiawa on May 29. A remit to be forwarded to the association was drawn up as follows: “That the May school holidays be changed to June.” It was felt parents would have more opportunity of taking their children on holidays than they had in the beginning of May. The visiting committee reported that several fences wanted attention but that otherwise the grounds were in excellent condition. Messrs. Parry and Silby were appointed a visiting committee.
