VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH

PUPILS OF THE KORU SCHOOL. <» The pupils of the Koru school attended the King’s jubilee service in Pukekura Park, New Plymouth, on Monday morning and after luncheon in Kawaroa Park visited the New Zealand Star. The trip was made possible through the loan of cars by nine residents of the district. The luncheon arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames G. Green, W. W. Maskelyne, Weir and J. Green. Hurworth Merrymakers. A concert given in the hall by the Hurworth Merrymakers was well supported by the people of Koru. From the opening chorus the programme went with a swing, favourite items being the character song “Gretchen’s Sweetheart” and the chorus “Singin. in the Rain.” The company’s manager, Mr. Harrison, expressed appreciation of the support given the entertainers and thanked members of the hall committee for their help and the children who had assisted with the decorations. The programme was as follows: Hawaiian scene, the company; recitation. Miss A. Smith; choruses, “I Want to be Happy,” “The Old Spinning Wheel”; dramatic sketch, “Between the Soup and the Savoury,” Misses J. Harrison, W. Pepperell, D. Okey; duet, “Matrimonial Troubles,” Misses L. and M. King; negro scene, the company; recitation, Miss D. Okey; choruses, “Sing to Me, Gipsy,” “Singing in the Rain"; song, “Gretchen’s Sweetheart,” Miss AV. Adlam; dramatic sketch, “Early Birds,’ Misses L. and M. King, AV. Gilbert, E. Burkitt, N. Adlam, I. Gleye and A. Smith; chorus. “Laugh and the AVorld Laughs With You.” Hall Committee Election.

A meeting of householders has been called to elect a hall committee for the ensuing year. Despite energetic work by the old committee, the hall finances have fallen upon lean times.
