IN PATRIOTIC GARB

DECORATION OF STRATFORD. CELEBRATION OF THE JUBILEE. The whole of the business ' area of Stratford will assume patriotic attire for the King’s jubilee. Practically every shopkeeper is taking steps to bring his windows into line, and the town will present a striking appearance. The Government has authorised the expenditure of £25 on the decoration of the post office. From the top of the tower to the wings of the building rows of flags will be strung, and larger flags will be hung at intervals. The top ledge will be faced with red, white and blue, and below that the colours will again be festooned. The pillars of the facade will be decorated in keeping with the rest.

The municipal chambers have already given evidence of the intention of the council, and a large portrait of King George, about 6ft. by 10ft., overlooks Broadway from the second storey. Many of the shops have chosen original and interesting displays. One firm has as the central feature of its window a large model of a battle cruiser; another features balloons in patriotic colours. Pasteboard signs are numerous, and coloured streamers are everywhere. A jeweller has actually had a map of England painted 0- Lis -. -indow to mark the event and many more ideas await execution.
