COUNTRY SCHOOLS
SPORT IN INGLEWOOD DISTRICT. ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Inglewood Country Schools’ Sports Association was held at Inglewood on Saturday. Mr. J. Klenner- presided. The report stated that the season had been successful with an improved standard of play. The winners in each division were: Eastern, Kaimata football, Tariki basketball; western, Egmont Village football and basketball. The chain-. pionship winners were Kaimata football and Egmont Village basketball. The annual football match with the combined Inglewood schools resulted in a draw for the second year in succession. The annual representative matches played against the New Plymouth country schools’ group at New Plymouth resulted in losses by small margins after exciting games. A new departure was a combined country schools v. town match, which resulted in a win for the country team. The annual combined concert at Kaimata was an unqualified success and a profit of £4 15s Id was made. The season. had opened with a credit balance of £1 Is 9d, which had been raised to £5 3s 4d. Three boys from the associated schools had succeeded in gaining places in the North Taranaki representatives. Officers elected were: Chairman, Mr. J. Klenner; secretary and treasurer, Mr. I. V. Buchanan; selectors, eastern division, Miss V. L. Mullon (basketball) and Mr. L. Brown (football); western division, Miss M. Thomas (basketball) and Mr. Hollis (football). Competitions are to commence on May 31. A letter was received from the North Taranaki Primary Schools’ Rugby Union stating that a combined country schools v. town match would be played at New Plymouth on June 23, after which the North Taranaki team to meet South Taranaki at Hawera on July 3 would be picked. It was decided to reply that the date was suitable and to get in touch with the New Plymouth country schools’ group about playing a trial match at New Plymouth on June 15
from which to pick the country team. It was decided to defer purchasing football jerseys for the representative team until next year, when it is hoped sufficient funds will be available to supply the basketball representatives with a distinctive costume also.
