Broad Arrow was fourth after being checked to avoid the heels of another horse. Latrobe’s gear shifted during the raC MAIDEN NURSERY HANDICAP. First Division. MONEY SPI, 7.10 (Hickey) 1 •DIATTER, 7.12 (Welsh) 2 WET SAIL, 8.2 (McCarten) 3 Twenty-one started, including LanijinTwo lengths; half a length. Time 565. (five furlongs), which equals the race record. WELTER HANDICAP. First Division. PRINCE POMBAL, 9.12 (Voitre) .... 1 BABILI, 9.12 (Pike) 2 VOLWOOD, £.O (Marsden) 3 Sixteen started, including Frimsel and Cockpen. Half a length; length. Time, Im. 39gs. Two No Trumps was unplaced in the Second Division of this event. Norman Conquest was unplaced in the Second Division of the Flying Handicap and Samovar was unplaced in the third division. SHINING GOLD AT EPSOM. RULING LIGHT NOT PLACED. Rec. 10.40 p.m. Melbourne, April 17. At the Epsom races to-day .Cape Lilock was unplaced in the Trial Hurdles. The principal result was:— . OPEN MILE. DEATH OF SANS PEINE. HORSE FOR NEW ZEALAND. Rec. 11 p.m. Sydney, April 17. The imported horse Sans Peine, who died suddenly to-day, was to have been sent to New Zealand next week for the Elderslie stud. VOITRE TO RIDE HALL MARK. SILVER SCORN GALLOPS WELL. Rec. 11.10 p.m. Sydney, April 17. The jockey, Voitre, has been definitely engaged to ride the Victorian, Hall Mark, in the Doncaster Handicap. Silver Ring will be ridden by McCarten. He did a good swinging gallop today. He was adequately tested and came through the ordeal most satisfactorily.
