POULTRY PRODUCERS

OBJECT OF FEDERATION. The first meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the New Zealand Poultry Producers’ Federation last night resulted in several interesting discussions on poultrymen’s difficulties and experiences. Ultimately it is hoped to have enforced a law that all eggs must bear a certain stamp before being retailed, as at present occasional contaminated eggs find their way to consumers. General rules as laid down by the federation were read and discussed, points in connection with membership in particular being made clear to those present. Members during the ensuing weeks before the next meeting, which will be held on receiving a list of names of registered poultry keepers, were asked to approach others interested in poultry with the object of securing their cooperation. Mr. E. R. Newell, chairman of the branch, proposed that lectures.and socials be held from time to time. As a Government representative will not be at New Plymouth until the winter show proposals were invited as to a lecturer in the meantime, with the result .that Mr. W. Scott offered to give a lecture or perhaps a field day. Six members were present at the meeting, including Messrs. E. R. Newell, W. R. Leyton, W. Scott, J. R. Miller, D. M. Peek and E. J. Miller (secretary).
