The death has occurred of the painter Joseph Farquharson, hereditary chief of Clan Farquharson, says a London cable. Foreman, Tikorangi, has been re-appointed Government representative on the Taranaki Land Board for a term of two years, according to the latest issue of the 'Gazette. Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. J. W. Burgess was expressed at the annual meeting of the Tarata branch of the Farmers’ Union last night. A letter of condolence was received from the Kaimata branch of the union. Appreciative reference to the friendly relationship between the Stratford and Taranaki Hospital Boards during Mr. W. L. Kennedy’s term of chairmanship was made at-a meeting of the Taranaki board yesterday. The retiring board decided to communicate its appreciation to Mr. Kennedy. Reference was made at the' annual meeting of householders of the Westown school district last night to the approaching departure for Dunedin of Mr. W. A. Brown, a former headmaster of the school. His work in the cause of education at New Plymouth was praised and regret expressed that the fall 'in grade of the West End school necessitated his departure from New Plymouth. Householders wished him every success in his new school.
