“FATHER OF ATHLETICS”
DEATH OF RICHARD COOMBE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, April 16. The death has occurred of Mr. Richard Coombe, aged 80, president of the New South Wales Amateur Athletic Association for the past 42 years. He was known as the “father of athletics” in Australia. He led the first Australian team of athletes to New Zealand in 1889, and had made 20 visits to the Dominion since.
