LEADING PASTURES

FARMERS’ COMPETITIONS. COMMITTEE’S DISCUSSION. A meeting of the North Taranaki Farmers’ Competitions Committee was held at New Plymouth yesterday. There were present Messrs. H. C. Sampson, S. Topless, T. H. Paul and A. G. Elliott, of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture. Mr. Elliott was elected chairman in succession to Mr. J. M. Smith and presented a report in connection with the pastures competition, the judging of which has < just been concluded. The leading 25 competitors were:— W. F. Goodin (Okato) No. 1 .184 J. N. Toplete (Urenui) 177 J, C. Honeyfield (Urenui) 177 J, W. F. Goodin (Okato) S. Managh (Urenui) 177, A. Sangster (Wharehuia) 177, E. Mason (Tariki) 1761, L. Martell (Toko) 1754, R. Weeden (Urenui) 175 J, R. B. Sutton (Inglewood) 1744, H. M. Paul (Okato) 1744, H. M. Taylor (Tariki) 174. Mr. Elliott said 112 pastures had been judged and competition was very keen. The pastures generally were of a very high standard. With regard to this year's root competitions, it was decided that two points a tOn be allowed for weight, 10 points for cultivation and 20 points for quality and type in place of 10 as previously. There will be classes for swedes, mangolds, carrots and mixed crop. Chou moellier must be cut and not pulled in future. The areas will be the same as last year.
