RUGBY AT ELTHAM
TOWN DRAWS WITH COUNTRY. PRACTICE GAME PLAYED. Football commenced at Eltham on Saturday when teams representing town, and country played a practice game, the scores being 16-all. The teams .were:— Town: Red Bourke; Sheehy, Whiting, W. Glentworth; L. White, Williams; Maslin; Wolfe, Leathern, Martin, R. Glentworth, Potts, Morgan, Thomas Ricketts. Country: Paterson; Carter, . Smith. Young; Prestidge, A. Jenkins; Worthington; R. Campbell, Bithell, F. Bocock, R. Ward, J. Gower, Bootten (2),' PennialL . Both teams showed good form for the first game, of the season, clean, open play giving promise of a bright display of football when the competitions open. Honours were about even, each team scoring 16 points. Several players new to the club took the field, F. Young, in particular, being one who should assist the senior team. Town’s chances appeared good when L. White got away but Whiting was unable to take the pass out. Whiting, Williams and Sheehy made efforts to get through but Paterson found the line. Country rushed down the line, F. Young failing with a free kick. Another rally .by Country ended in a score by Worthington. Smith kicked the goal. A rush inspired by Young and carried on by F. Bocock was followed up by Bootten, who was unable to beat Sheehy on the line. Leathern kicked a fine penalty goal and Campbell responded with another. Sheehy scored after, Whiting, Leathern and R. Glentworth had made a good opening, and Leathern converted, bringing the score to 8-all at half-time. Ray Bourke replaced Red Bourke and. made an opening for White, wlu> sent to Whiting, who scored. Bourke s kick was wide. Whiting dummied his way through but lacked support when collared. F. Young sprinted down the field, supported by Martin and Carter. Carterpassed back to Young, who touched down at the comer. Paterson’s kick was unsuccessful and scores were again even. A solo run by Bourke was stemmed at the posts, where Martin marked, but hte kick at goal was charged down. R. Ward scored as a result of a strong rush by Country. Sheehy saved the first attack but a second onslaught gave Ward his chance. Smith converted. Whiting scored after an opening was made by Ray Bourke, the conversion making tne scores equal. Mr. F. Brisco was the referee.
