INGLEWOOD SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING HELD. DECLINE IN ATTENDANCE. The monthly meeting of the Inglewood school committee was held on Tuesday. Messrs. M. . Sutherland (chairman), E. Clark, G. Barry, D. McAllister, E. Maetzig,‘H. Patterson and A. G. Jenkins (secretary) and R. Brown (headmaster) were present.
The headmaster reported that for February the roll was, boys 116, girls 97, 213 with an average attendance of 195.1. This showed a decrease of 30 over the end of last year which would result, if continued, in the grade of tire school dropping to 4C.. Mr. Brown stated that the matter was serious but the attendance should increase later, as it had been greatly affected by sickness.
He was anxious to start garden plots for each class to look after and it was decided to get some black soil and manure to help the gardens. It was also decided to purchase mats for the main entrance doors at the school. Messrs. Sutherland, Maetzig and Patterson were appointed a committee to inspect the swings etc. at the old school with a view to having them transferred to the new school grounds. A letter was received from the Inglewood Cycle Club asking the school committee to assist the club with their athletic sports as it was holding children’s races. Messrs. E. Maetzig and M. Sutherland were appointed delegates to meet the cycle club.
Sympathy was expressed with Mr. and Mrs. C. List in the death of their only son, George List. Congratulations were extended to the West End school on its jubilee. Messrs. Barry and Maetzig were appointed the visiting committee for the month.
