OLD GIRLS’ REUNION

WEST END SCHOOL JUBILEE. MANY VISITORS PRESENT. A successful gathering in connection with the West End school jubilee was held in the Agricultural Hall, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon, when members of the women’s committee acted as hostesses to the old girls of the school. There were well over 100 present, including visitors from all over Taranaki. A welcome was extended by Miss L. Mynott, for many years infant mistress of the school A pleasing ceremony during the' afternoon was the lighting of the candles on the birthday cake by the three oldest pupils, Mesdarpes C. Brpkenshire (New Plymouth), G. Pitt (New Plymouth) and C. Whittington (Eltham). The cake was made by Mrs. D. K. Morrison and the first slice was cut by Miss Mynott Musical items were given by Mesdames H. Avery, P. C. Davie and Hawkins and Misses Sole and J. Cocker. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. Shrimpton, Miss Grice and Mr. P. Frederic. Five small girls, Nancy and Alison McQueen and Fay, Gwen and Barbara Turnbull, gave exhibitions of drill, fancy dancing and period costumes. They were trained by Mesdam.es Patterson and Bruce. Miss Dowling led community singing and her orchestra gave several items.

The organising committee was Mesdames W. Patterson (convener),’ M. J. O’Donnell, B. Sole, Hodder, W. Grant, Bell and Miss Jury.
