TOKAORA SETTLERS

PICNIC HELD AT TE NGUTU.

SPORTS PROGRAMME DECIDED. Residents of Tokaora and adjacent districts and their families spent an enjoyable day at the Te Ngutu Domain on Saturday. Games in the morning and a sports programme provided exercise for those taking part and interest and often amusemerit for the spectators. The chairman of the committee, Mr. S. Thrush, thanked the residents for their interest and attendance and the domain caretaker for the facilities provided. The catering was done by a women's committee under Mrs. E. Jennings.

The picnic committee consisted of Messrs. S. Thrush (chairman), S. J. Bennett, J. Joyce, J. Lavery, H. Barr, H. V. Ward, J. V. McMahon, N. H. Wren, V. Mills and H. J. Finlay (secretary). Results of races were as follow:—

Boys: Tiny tots, H. Tosland 1, Wells 2, T. Tippitt 3; eight to 10 years, D. Tippitt 1, F. Wren 2, W. Schicker 3; 10 to 12 years, G. Ward 1, E. Schicker 2, J. Tosland 3; 12 to 14 years, L. Tippitt 1, W. Riley 2, J. Gunderson 3. Girls: 12 to 14 years, D. Finlay 1, K. Burrell 2, E. Peacock 3; 13 to 12 years, S. Thrush 1, E. Tippitt 2, N. Wren 3; 8 to 10 years, J. Wren 1, M. Palmer 2, J. Tosland 3; tiny tots, B. Atkinson 1, P. Wells 2.

Married men: First race, S. Bennett 1, F. Stewart 2; second race, J. Joyce 1, L. Atkinson 2.

Girls’ three-legged race: H. Tippitt and K. Wren 1, Thrush and Jennings 2, A. Finlay and H. Schicker 3. Boys’ three-legged race: Tosland and Gunderson 1, Riley and Tippitt 2, Wren and Tippitt 3. ' Mixed wheelbarrow race: Miss Susie Johnson and Jim Johnson 1, Mrs. P. Wood and N. Aroa 2, Miss M. Barr and A. Johnson 3.

Women’s sack race: S. Johnson 1, P. Jordon 2.

Married women: First race, Mrs. H. Wren 1, Mrs. Tosland 2, Mrs. Jennings 3; second race, Mrs. W. Standish 1, Mrs. R. Wells 2, Mrs. Hardwick 3.

440 yards, men: R. Wells and N. Sly dead heat 1,

Chain stepping: A. Aroa 1, T. Rae 2, H. Ward 3.

Men’s sack races: L. Barr 1, J. Johnson 2, N. Sly 3; F. Smith 1, A. Johnson 2, R. Wells 3. Girls’ hopping: J. Wren 1, H. Tippitt 2. Boys’ hopping: R. Ward 1, N. Sly 2. Young women’s hopping: Betty Johnson 1, D. Jennings 2, S. Johnson 3. Young men’s hopping: W. Burrell 1, F. Smith 2, N. Sly 3. It was proposed to make the event an annual one.
