CONVENT PICNIC
KAPONGA CHILDREN AT OPUNAKE BIG SPORTS PROGRAMME.
Fine weather favoured the Kaponga Convent school pupils for their annual picnic at Opunake beach on Thursday. Races and swimming occupied most of the day. Lunch and afternoon tea was served by a women’s committee and sweets and soft drinks were distributed. The Rev. Father McDermott supervised the sports programme and Messrs. D. Malone, L. Chamberlain and J. Hammersley acted as handicappers. The judges were Messrs. W. Melville, J. Brown and J. Murphy. Father McDermott extended thanks to the donors
of prizes, sweets and fruit and to others who had assisted to make the outing a success. The results were:— Boys (first series): 11 years, B. Candy 1 C. Butler 2, C. Keheley 3; 9 to 11 years, D.
