AUCKLAND DOMINANT
SPECTACULAR MARCH PAST. MILITARY PRECISION SHOWN. There were only three Auckland teams entered for the march-past and they filled the first three places. Eastern United, nearly the whole senior membership of which had to be used in the team, put up a splendid performance for such a small organisation in gaining first place with 25 points. Waitemata, a team of first-class physique, was second two points behind and Takapuna, holder of the championship was third with 22 points. Opunake was fourth with 21. The spectacular nature of the marchpast drew rounds of sincere applause from the huge crowd as each team, spotless in its brilliant club costumes approached ' from the northern end of the beach to the music of the pipe band turned up the beach to the inner 1 side of the enclosure and drew up side by side facing the crowd after circling the arena. There they were stood at ease until an order from the marshall advanced them in line up the beach. The teams then marched off one by one. Eastern United’s success was due to the fact that it was the only team to keep perfect step to the music all the way round the arena. The teams entered the arena in the following order: Patea (maroon, with gold badge), Lyall Bay (white, diagonal black stripes), Obawe (black, diagonal broad white stripe), Takapuna (cream, blue and gold band), Opunake (bottle green, gold V), Eastern United (sky blue, diagonal orange stripes), New Plymouth Old Boys (Royal blue, gold badge), East End (black, red and gold), Maranui (blue and red), Waitemata (cream, with zig-zag blue and gold stripe), Fitzroy (cream, blue facings), St. Clair (black, white badge), Castlecliff (sky blue, white badge).
