HIGH SCHOOL’S GOOD WIN

NEW- PLYMOUTH BEATEN 67 BEHIND HIGH SCHOOL SCORE. URRY. SUCCESSFUL. BOWLER. In a match that dragged to an uninteresting conclusion, New Plymouth High School defeated New Plymouth by 67 runs on the first innings. On the first day in reply to School’s score of 232, New Plymouth had lost three for 67 at stumps. On Saturday the total was carried to 165. In a second innings School made 140 for the loss of nine wickets. The partnership between Kinsella and Larkin was responsible for the addition of 40 runs, taking New Plymouth’s score to 103. ' The fifth wicket fell at 110 and three men were sent back without addition to the score. Groombridge and Wayne were associated in a free-scoring ninth wicket partnership. Groombridge showed good form for the first time this season and made a brisic 34, which included five boundaries. He was dismissed by an excellent catch by Keller at third man. Crapper, with a powerful hit sent the ball high towards the leg boundary where Broughton held a brilliant catch when the bail appeared to have crossed’the boundary. School opened its. second strike shortly after 4 o’clock. Donnelly was hooking well but he played over a low straight ball. Larkin and Waters were batting solidly and scoring steadily. With the total at 54 Larkin retired with wrist trouble. Waters, who had batted with greater freedom than usual, followed shortly afterwards. Broughton had opened his account with a sweet hook for four and was batting soundly while wickqts fell quickly with rapid changes of bowling by the New Plymouth captain. Until Carroll came in Broughton received little support. The return of Larkin helped materially the mounting score,, and time was played oiit by the last-men. The umpires were Messrs. P. S. Cartoll and Sarten. ' Details are:— ‘ \ HIGH SCHOOL. ■ ’ First Innings ..........232 Second Innings.
