PRICES AT ADDINGTON RAIN HINDERS VALUES.' SALES OF STORES ACTIVE. © Christchurch, Feb. 20. Entries were up to normal in all sec- ’ tions of the market at Addington to-day and store ewes were much more heavily represented. There was a heavy entry of store lambs, but a general easing, except for the best rape sorts, which showed only a minor decline. Best rape lambs, 15s Id to 15s sd; medium rape, 12s lOd to 14s lOd; average store, 9s 3d to Ils lOd; cull lambs, 4s 6d to 8s 7d. Store sheep: Good rain to-day assisted in hardening the market and young ewes sold at an advance. Old sorts showed very little change. Good 2-tooth halfbred ewes, 28s to 29s 3d; medium 2tooth halfbred ewes, 22s 6d to 25s 6d; ordinary 2-tooth halfbred ewes, 20s to 225; medium to good s.m. ewes, 15s 6d to 17s; ordinary s.m. ewes, 14s to 15s 3d; inferior s.m. ewes, Ils 3d to 13s; old and f.m., 4s 6d to 8s Id; wethers, 12s 6d to 15s. Fat lambs: 3,800 were penned and the sale was good at reduced schedule rates. The entry of fat pigs was much smaller than usual and there was a good sale all round. Porkers, 33s to 365; heavy, 37s 6d to 43s 6d; average price per lb, 6£d to 6AdBURNSIDE QUOTATIONS GENERAL IMPROVEMENT NOTED. LAMB COMPETITION ACTIVE. Dunedin, Feb. 20. There were smaller entries in both the beef and mutton sections at the Burnside sale to-day. The fat cattle entry totalled 181 head. About half the yarding comprised cows and heifers, with an odd consignment of heavy cattle. The sale opened with values a shade firmer than previous markets and improved as the sale progressed. Bullocks appreciated by 15s and cows and heifers by 10s to 15s a head. Extra prime heavy bullocks sold to £lO 17s 6d; prime heavy, £8 17s 6d to £lO 2s 6d; medium, £6 19s 6d to £8 2s 6d; light, to £5 2s 6d; extra prrime cows and heifers, to £6 12s 6d. Only a few pens of steers were forward and the demand showed an improvement on late sales. A pen of three-year-old steers realised £4 12s 6d and any cows suitable for butchers’ requirements showed an appreciation of 10s a head. An entry of 28 dairy cows comprised good quality animals, and a keen sale for these resulted in £6 2s 6d being obtained for best young cows close to profit. In the fat sheep section an entry of approximately 1500 was comprised for the most part of medium quality ewes. There was a dearth of heavy wethers, which sold at an advance of 2s, and heavy ewes were from Is 6d to 2s a head firmer. All freezing sorts realised full schedule rates. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 29s 3d; prime heavy, 25s to 27s 3d; medium, 23s 6d to 24s 9d; light, down to 20s; extra prime heavy, ewes, to 255; prime Heavy, 20s to 21s 6d; medium, 16s to 17s 6d; light, down to 13s. There was a yarding of 1200 fat lambs, only an odd consignment being of heavy description. Butchers competed heavily for all heavy grades and full late rates were maintained. Extra prime heavy lambs sold to 27s 6d; prime heavy, 23s to 24s 6d; medium, 20s to 22s 6d; light, down to 17s 6d. In the fat pig section 139 were submitted to auction and, although at the outset prices were hardly maintained at recent rates, both baconers and porkers at the close sold at 8s a head cheaper than the previous market. There was good competition for a medium yarding of store pigs, large stores selling to 18s and suckers at 7s to 12s a head.
