WIN FOR OAONUI TEAM. Playing in the second round Moron Shield tennis competition the Oaonui A team beat Pungarehu at Oaonui during the week-end by three games, all of which were keenly contested. The scores were: Pungarehu 8 sets, 96 games; Oaonui, 8 sets, 99 games. Pungarehu players are mentioned first in the following details:—
Men’s singles: B. Brophy lost to L. A. Bosworth 5—9, L. Beardmore beat M. S. Quigley 9—B, J. Priest beat H. Turu 9—7, J. Armstrong beat A. Hunia 9-2.
Women’s singles: Miss C. Brophy lost to Miss R. Mitchell 3—7, Miss I. Gray lost to Miss E. Roach 5—7, Miss M. Brophy lost to Mrs. L. A. Bosworth 3 —7, Miss L. Gilhooly beat Miss A. Dobbin 7—6.
Men’s doubles; Brophy and Beardmore lost to Bosworth and Quigley 5—9, Priest and Armstrong beat Turu and Hunia 9-3.
Women’s doubles: Misses C? Brophy and I. Gray beat Miss E. Roach and Mrs. Bosworth 7—4, Misses M. Brophy and T. Gilhooly lost to Misses R. Mitchell and A. Dobbin 2 —7.
Combined doubles: Brophy and Miss C. Brophy defeated Bosworth and Miss E. Roach 7—4, Beardmore and Miss I. Gray lost to Quigley and Miss R. Mitchell 5—7, Priest and Miss M. Brophy lost to Turu and Mrs. Bosworth 4—7, Armstrong and Miss L. Gilhooly beat Hunia and Miss A. Dobbin 7—5. Oaonui Tennis Club ladder matches played during the week resulted as follows, the challengers being mentioned first:—Miss H. Mitchell beat Miss A. Dobbin 6—2 for fourth position, R. Tito beat T.
