The track was good and the attendance large. The totalisator returned £3731, as against £3539 for the same day last year. The attention of owners and trainers is drawn to the programme of the Opunake Racing Club for its. meeting on February 27. The date has been changed this year from St. Patrick’s Day jn order that th? leading horsemen may be present. The two leading events are the Opunake Cup of £l2O, run over a mile and a quarter, and the Patiki Hurdles, of £lOO, of a mile and a half. Hacks are amply catered for on the programme. The Railway Handicap (£75, seven furlongs), Electric Handicap (£75, five furlongs), President’s Handicap (£9O, nine furlongs) and Farewell Handicap (£75, six furlongs) being on the card. The Maiden Race, of £65, is run over six furlongs and is open to two-year-olds (7.7) and three-year-olds and upwards (8.5). Nominations for all events will close with the secretary, Mr. P. S. Riley, Pihama, at 5 p.m. to-day.
Egmont Racing Club. Acceptances for all events on the first day of the Egmont Racing Club’s meeting next week will close with the secretary, Mr. A. K. Fyson, at 9 to-night.
Te Aroha Nominations. Nominations for all events for the Te Aroha Jockey Club’s meeting on February 23 and 25 will close with the secretary, Mr. J. P. Somers, Te Aroha, at 8 to-night. The Te Aroha meeting is one of the most popular gatherings in the Dominion. The meeting has always attracted horses from Taranaki and a number will doubtless make the visit.
