FIREMAN FROM SHIP FINED MALLET USED AS WEAPON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, January 28., John Joseph Higgans, aged 36, ship’s fireman, was fined £3, in default 14 days imprisonment, for assaulting Jack Vlahovich, tea-room proprietor. Vlahovich said that Higgans had an argument with a waitress and was uttering threats to kill. He picked up a mallet and hit the girl employee, and then Vlahovich. Half the fine goes to the injured map.
