POLICE CAR TAKEN

GAOL FOR CONVERSION OFFENCE.

CONTINUOUS SOUNDING OF HORN.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, January 28. Lcclie Joseph Wallace, aged 18, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., on a charge of unlawfully converting a motor-car. A detective said that the car, which was owned by Senior-Sergeant Whitehouse, had been removed from a garage by the accused, who gained an entrance by squeezing through the doors. He subsequently went for a joy ride to Feilding, where he attracted the attention of the police by driving round the streets continuously sounding the horn. The magistrate said that if these offences were overlooked there would occur an epidemic of them.
