GAMING ACT BREACHES ALLEGED POLICE MAKE EIGHT ARRESTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, January 28. A simultaneous raid by detectives on Saturday afternoon upon four hotels resulted in eight arrests under the Gaming Act. This morning various charges were preferred, the hearings being adjourned for a week. Among those taken in charge were the licensee, his wife and the barman of a suburban hotel, the other five arrests being made in three city hotels. Four of the men were barmen, and it is alleged against them that they permitted the premises to be used as common gaming houses, while it is alleged against the fifth that he was carrying on the business of a bookmaker in an hotel bar.
