SHEEP THEFT CHARGE

REMAND FOR WEEK GRANTED. AWAKINO MAORI IN COURT. Th ? hearing of three charges arising from allegations of sheep-stealing against an Awakino Maori, Joe Toss, was adjourned till next Monday, by the magistrate, Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M.; at ti. New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The charges were that on January 7 Toss stole a ewe valued at 245, the property of William Duncan Thompson, that in November he stole seven lambs valued at £7, the property of William Duncan Thompson, and that on January 14 at Awakino he was in possession of six sheepskins from which the ears had been removed. The remand was granted on the application of Detective A. B. Meiklejohn, no objection being raised by Mr. L. M. Moss, counsel for Toss. Bail was renewed.
