SUCCESSFUL PICNIC
LEAGUE CYCLE CLUB EVENT.
CRICKET MATCHES AND SPORTS.
The Meeting of the Waters was the venue of the annual picnic of the New Plymouth Cycle and Athletic League Club during the week-end. There was a splendid attendance of nearly 100 members and their friends and an enjoyable time was spent with cricket, athletics and swimming. Two cricket matches took place between teams selected by Messrs. G. M. Beer, J. Cross, D. George and H. Bocock. Playing against Beer’s team, Cross’-team scored an innings victory, while Bocock’s team defeated George’s team by five runs.
Other events decided were:— Single men’s race: G. Tuffery 1, A. Warren 2, A. Hawkins 3. Married men’s race: H. Eva 1, J. Donaldson 2, D. George 3. Married women’s race: Mrs. Donaldson 1, Mrs. George 2, Mrs. Wilson 3. Single women’s race: Miss M. Hall 1, Miss J. Williams 2, Miss J: Rides 3. Boys’ race: W. Smith 1. Three-legged race: W. Ireland and L. Stevens.
Women’s three-legged race: Misses M. Cliff and R. Brown. A mixed relay race was won by H. Wolfe’s team, with H. Bocock’s team second.
A successful dance was held by the Mountain Road Race Committee of the club in the Agricultural Hall on Saturday evening last. The dance was attended by visiting oarsmen and members of the New Plymouth Rowing Club. Over 200 couples were present and an enjoyable evening was spent. Music was played by Vinsen’s Ambassadors’ Orchestra and novelty items by the band were appreciated. A Dutch Monte Carlo fox trot was won by Mr. Smith and Miss Jones, andra Monte Carlo waltz by Mr. Robinson and Miss U. Williams.
