SOUNDINGS IN ANTARCTIC. WORK OF BEAR OF OAKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Montreal, Jan. 17. A message from the Bear of Oakland states: Manual soundings were started while the Bear of Oakland was near Coulman Island on Monday. Considerable knowledge regarding the continental shelf has been determined close to Franklin Island. Pebbles, also microscopic mollusca, were brought to the surface, which will be turned over to the scientists at Little America for examination. The entire western side of Ross Sea is filled with an unbroken field of pack ice. After a visit to the station at Cape Crozier the vessel will proceed to Little America.
