HAWERA’S POLO WINS
SWIMMING CARNIVAL SUCCESS. GOOD ENTRIES IN ALL EVENTS. Hawera water polo teams, holders of the Garth Cup (women) and the Dalgleish Cup (men), won their matches comfortably at the Hawera Swimming Club’s carnival last night. The carnival was very successful, good entries being received from all parts of the province. The Hawera men’s team beat New Plymouth by seven goals to two. The game was bright, Hawera playing the better polo and having the soundest defence. The winner’s goals were scored by Beaven (3), Ryan (2) and Clarke (2). Milne scored both Nev/ Plymouth’s. The Hawera women also showed superiority against Stratford, goals being scored by Joyce Goodwin (2), P. Robertspn and G. Bernard. R. Black scored for Stratford. Nowell (S, ss) 2, H. Evans (H, 12s) 3. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. H. Jenkins, of the Hawera staff of Levin and Co., has resigned owing to indifferent health, and will reside at Tauranga. The resignation of Mr. J. Champion from the secretaryship of the citizens committee of the Hawera Municipal Band has been accepted by the committee. Mr. L. O. Hooker has been appointed to succeed him. Sympathy with Cr. J. Peat in the loss of his mother was expressed at the Patea County Council meeting yesterday.
