BOOKS IN DEMAND IN 1934. REVIEW OF YEAR'S LITERATURE. There was a definite increase in the number of books issued by the Hawei a public library during the past year, 79,764 volumes being read in comparison with 76,287 last . ear, an increase of 3477. An average of" 264 books were issued per day compared with 252 per day in 1933. The number of new books added was 982, of which 580 were fiction. While the issues of fiction increased, the demand for books of travel, biography, reminiscences and other general literature is still high. This year 15,885 books of this nature were read. The children’s section, though small, has been well patronised, 7218 books being issued during the year. One hundred and twenty-eight new books were added.
