Dumitrescu was piloting the ’plane from Vienna to Paris for an engine overhaul prior . to the departure for Australia. I was sitting at the back seat controls. When over the Rhine we struck a heavy cloud fog, about a thousand feet up. Suddenly near Buhl, in Baden, through the mist loomed up a large obstacle, apparently a mountain. Dumitrescu nosed the machine upwards. but the angle was too great and the ’plane went into a tail spin. “I attempted to regain control, but was unsuccessful, so I jumped out and landed with a parachute.
