VISIT OF THE DUKE
STRATFORD TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS CHILDREN TO GO TO HAWERA. Advice that on the occasion of the visit of the Duke of Gloucester to Taranaki Stratford children would have to attend at Hawera, and not New Plymouth as formerly arranged, has been received by Mr. J. Morrison, chairman of the Stratford School Committee. This refers to the train transport which had been arranged. The notice upset the arrangements that the school committee had made, said Mr. Morrison. Inquiries had revealed that a large number of children and their parents would be travelling to New Plymouth on that day, the prospects of a picnic on the beach being an additional attraction. Now that the venue was changed from New Plymouth to Hawera he considered that there would be fewer people going to Hawera. In addition the ceremony at Hawera was to last only 20 minutes and would probably take place on the railway station. He -understood that it was a railway matter, said Mr. Morrison; the children were supposed to travel to the' nearest centre by rail. The Stratford Technical High School pupils would be on the same footing as those of the primary school. The matter would be fully discussed at the next committee meeting.
