His long political career included membership of the West Australian Cabinet, Treasurer of West Australia, Colonial Secretary, Minister of Mines, Railways, Industries, Woods and Forests, Police and State Steamships. He was Prime Minister of Western Australia from 1911 to 1916. After a retirement from politics for six years he re-entered in 1930. He was Minister for Railways from 1930 to 1933. -
