WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Inglewood Junior: On Monday there was an attendance of 17 members for the monthly meeting. One new member was welcomed. A demonstration on paper pulp work was given by Mrs. T. Lindsay and several articles were exhibited. A tinsel picture donated by Miss V. Dryden was won by Mrs. Lindsay. Supper was served by the hostesses, Misses G. Fawcett, J. Feaver and N. Crozier. Turuturu: The Turuturu Women’s Institute met on Wednesday. There was a record attendance and several new members were elected. Final arrangements were made for the birthday party. Mrs. Duncan gave a demonstration of cake icing. Mrs. Morse and Mrs. Evans were hostesses. In a competition for an embroidered d’oyley Mrs. Eden was first, Mrs. Kirk second and Miss Crosbie third. Kakaramea: The monthly meeting of the Kakaramea Women’s Institute was held on November 16, Mrs. Ramsbottom presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. It .was reported that arrangements for the annual Christmas tree were well in hand. Miss Corrigan, Hawera, gave an interesting travel talk. The hostesses were Mesdames McHarry, Hall and Miss Dwyer. Kaponga: The monthly meeting of the Kaponga Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon, when the president, Mrs. R. D. Dagg, presided. There was an attendance of 22 members, which was below the usual owing to the heavy rain experienced. The president extended a welcome to several visitors front Hawera. A competition for a Christmas gift to be made at a cost not exceeding 2s was won by Mrs. Harper, with Mrs. Betts second and Mrs. J. Gibson third. An animal competition was won by Mrs. A. Betts. The president gave a resume of the recent federation meeting at Hawera. Mrs. Steven, Hawera, gave a demonstration on leather work, whilst Mesdames Jones and Allwright, Hawera, rendered a Maori duet. Hostesses were Mesdames A. Betts, J. Brown, Keheley and Miss. Wemyss.
