Motion Pictures at Ohangai. A type of entertainment new to the Ohangai district was presented in, the hall on Wednesday night, when a moving picture programme was presented. Many of the younger children in the audience would not remember the days of the silent pictures, which were a novelty, besides providing a striking example of the progress made in motion pictures and “talkies” during the past few years.

Champion Bloom at Okaiawa. The rose which won .the championship at the Okaiawa Presbyterian flower show on Wednesday was exhibited by Mrs. J. C. Wood, Okaiawa. Miss Alice Betts exhibited the champion bloom in the cut flower section. Undefended Civil Claims.

Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil cases at the Hawera Court yesterday by Messrs. G. H. Buckeridge and J. C. Barclay, justices of the peace: Para Rubber Company v. J. Spence, junr., £1 16s (costs 10s); Lightband and Wann, Ltd., v. E. MelviUe, £4 9s 9d (£1 3s 6d); B. H. Westwood v. H. C. Fake, 9s (8s); Hurrells, Ltd., v. H. Jones, £1 5s (3s).

Main Highways Board Visit. At Tuesday’s Kaponga Town Board meeting the chairman and Mr. Abbott, chairman of the works committee, were appointed to meet the Main Highways Board members, who are expected to visit Kaponga on Thursday. Mr. Marr and the clerk are to represent the board at the Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association quarterly meeting at Eltham.

Contest Postponed. The proposed professional boxing contest between J. Jarvis, Eltham, and C. Rush, Hawke’s Bay, to have been held at Hawera on Wednesday, has been postponed, word being received yesterday that Rush is suffering from influenza.

Cheque From Art Union. The Mayor of Hawera has received a cheque for £2l, the proceeds of the “Best of Luck” art union, to be devoted to the citizens’ relief fund. W.E.A. Play Reading.

“Philanthropy” and “The Legend” were the plays chosen by the W.E.A. play-reading circle on Thursday evening. Mesdames R. Walker, G. C. Harris, Percy, Miss Earle and Messrs. C. J. Cummings, W. G. Simoson and Braid took part.
