TARANAKI SALESMEN CONFER. DOMINION PRESIDENT’S VISIT. Over 20 real estate agents from all over Taranaki attended a meeting at New Plymouth last night to meet Mr. J. Gordon Harcourt, president of the New Zealand Real Estate Institute, who is on an official visit to Taranaki. Mr. J. R. Sutherland, president of the Taranaki branch of the institute, was in the chair and welcomed Mr. Harcourt. * Mr. Harcourt in an address stressed the advisability of land agents keeping together and Creating a uniform standard of practice in the interests of real estate and land agency business. Parliament was being approached for .legislation, he said, with the object of making everything fair not only for clients but for land agents also, and to build up the standard of the profession. Mr. Sutherland thanked Mr. Harcourt for his outspoken talk, which had been greatly appreciated. He admitted that Taranaki might have been lax in the past in its organisation. Subsequently the annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the institute was held. Officers elected were: President, Mr. W. H. H. Young, Stratford; vicepresidents, three were elected; honorary secretary, Mr. W. A. Hewitt, Stratford; executive, six to be elected from constituent districts. As Stratford was considered to be most central it was decided to establish the branch’s headquarters there. The question of tariffs was discussed on the lines, suggested by the New Zealand Real Estate Institute and a decision was left to the executive.

Mr. A. Evans, Hawera, was appointed to represent the Taranaki institute at the New Zealand annual conference.

It was decided to hold periodical meetings at Stratford to sustain the interest now created. It was L .ted that when land business was on a surer footing the New Zealand Institute had had 900 members and Taranaki 70. Now the figures were 350 and 20 respectively.
