SEVERE EARTHQUAKE
SOUTHERN N.S.W. SHAKEN MANY HOUSES DAMAGED SEVERAL UNINHABITABLE WIDE AREA FEELS SHOCK By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Nov. 19. An earthquake shock, probably the worst ever experienced in Australia, was felt in a number of towns in the southwest portion of New South Wales at 8 a.m. to-day. Minor damage was done. The towns affected are Canberra, Gunning, Yass, Parkes and Borgan Gate. Tremors w r ere also reported in the metropolitan area. The seismograph needle at the Riverview observatory registered a swing of two and a-half inches. Reports are arriving from various southern towns. One house two miles outside Gunning was so severely damaged that it has become uninhabitable. Many residents and business people report cracked walls and broken crockery and furniture. Some families are afraid to return to their homes owing to damage to walls and roofs. NORTHERN INDIA ROCKED PANIC SEIZES PESHAWAR Rec. 10 p.m. Calcutta, Nov. 19. An earthquake shock, the most severe for many years, shook the whole cf northern India at 8.40 yesterday morning. Peshawar was rocked and the population was panic-stricken and remained in the open all day.
