HAWERA TRACK WORK
AVONDALE AND LEVIN HOPES. TRACK FAST FOR GALLOPING. Pi*y, hard conditions again prevailed on Saturday morning at the Hawera racecourse for training operations. The plough trade was used for fast work and conditions were all conducive to the making of fast times. Carfex emphasised what a great little track worker he is by running six furlongs in 1.15%. Silk Sox (Cotter) and Onewhetu (Feasey) from a standing start sprinted four furlongs in 50 4-5, Silk Sox finishing half a tength in front. Carfex (Cole) and Harvest Moon (Vaughan) set out from the six furlongs, of the reverse way round, and cut out the first half-mile in 49 2-5. Carfex finished the better and was a couple of lengths to front in 1.15 2-5. Benedictus (Conway) in a working gallop covered his last six furlongs in 1.20%. i
The Levin candidates, Gold Gleam (Simpson) and Colossal (Cotter), were associated in a gallop over six furlongs. The pair were together at the -half-mile in 51 3-5, but Gold Gleam, finishing strongly, was three lengths to the good at the post in 1.18. ' St.' Clara (Edgecombe) was given her first fast work for some time and shaped well to finish within a length of Richfield (Mills) over four furlongs in 50 1-5. Cynical Kid bowled along freely in his two rounds of pace exercise. Frieslahd (Coyle) sprinted three furlongs in 38, after taking 13 for the first furlong. Silver Wings was out doing easy pace work. W. Grindlay has this filly looking well and she should be ready to show her best at the Christmas meetings.
M. Conway's maiden Careful (Conway) accomplished a useful working gallop, running her last six furlongs in 1.22.
On the Grass.
The two-year-old Exquisite (Vaughan) went much straighter, sprinting two furlongs in 25. The Tiger (Edgecombe) was given a working gallop, running six furlongs comfortably in 1.20. Copey Schools.
Copey (Cotter), who is to contest the steeplechases at Ellerslie on Saturday and Monday next, was again given a round of the schooling hurdles, jumping confidently.
Flowerbag, who has also been nominated for the Takapuna meeting, has again been showing signs of soreness and may not make the trip.
