RAILWAY COMPLETION
SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK LINE. OPPOSITION AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Lyttelton Harbour Board to-day carried a motion unanimously declaring its opposition to the proposal now being urged by the Marlborough Progress League for the completion of the South Island main trunk railway line. It was argued that the line would be unable to pay its way, at any rate for many years, and that if it were completed it would not achieve the object of developing the Marlborough province. A speaker suggested that the Government might with the aid of the Unemployment Board do more good by establishing better road access between Canterbury and Marlborough.
