DEPRESSION FELT
CONDITIONS AT RAROTONGA. . EXPERIENCE OF A MERCHANT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night “Industrial conditions at Rarotonga? Punk! Copra? Gone; and fruit is going the same way. The outlook is rotten!” So said Mr. W. G. Kingsbury, until recently a merchant and accountant in the. Ccok Islands, who arrived at Wellington by the Maunganui to-day with his wife and daughter to spend his retirement from business in North Auckland. Mr. Kingsbury said that although the copra industry had been in a bad condition for considerable time, apart, from that Rarotonga had until recently been behind-hand in feeling the worst effects of the depression. Now, while the general conditions seemed to. be lifting in other parts of the world, he could not say this for Rarotonga.
