INGLEWOOD

Miss Nell Fleming, Cape Road, Pungarehu, and Nurse Cavanagh, New Plymouth, left Auckland by the Monowai last week to spend a holiday at Sydney and Melbourne.

Mrs. R. Phillips, Everett Road, has returned from a holiday at Rawhitiroa. Miss Enid McAllum, who has been the guest of Mrs. G. Strang, New Plymouth, returned this week.

Mrs. E. Newland entertained friends on Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Twist was a visitor to Hawera this week.

Mrs. H. McAllum was a bridge hostess on Tuesday night. Mrs. Barnard entertained at bridge and music on Tuesday night.

Miss Mavis Ashton, Norfolk Road, is visiting Palmerston North. Mrs. R. Evetts (nee Sutton) left on Thursday to make her home in the Wairarapa.

Mrs. Barnard, Gisborne, who has been visiting Mrs. S. Barnard, will return at the week-end.

While in Inglewood Mrs. R. Kelso, Dominion organising secretary of women’s institutes, will be the guest of Mrs. W. Kaye and Mrs. W. J. Smith. The Inglewood Croquet Club held a gala day for the school funds on Thursday afternoon, the weather being ideal. Mesdames Maetzig, R. Brown and* Bublitz won competitions.

Mrs. K. Brown, Auckland, is a visitor at Inglewood. Mrs. Swan and Miss Wicksteed, Tarata, who have been the guests of Mrs. Adnams, Norfolk Road, for a few days; have returned. Mrs. D. Brown, Durham Road, has returned from Auckland. Mrs. Parfitt is the guest of Mrs. Partridge.

Miss Marquerite Leech entertained younger musical friends at an evening last Saturday, Pianoforte, orchestral trios, elocution and dancing comprised the programme, those taking part being Mesdames Braybrooke and Leech, Misses Elva Gopperth, Eris Hodges, Joy Kaye, Nabeth Mantey, Vida Braybrooke, M. Leech (’cello), Master Leo Gopperth (violin), Robert Mantey. Also present were Mesdames Kaye, Hodges, Leech, Gopperth and Mantey. The Inglewood Croquet Club held a flag five hundred evening on Thursday, , ten tables being engaged. The women’s winners were Mrs. Ashton and Miss Lovell. ,
