WAITARA ROAD RACE

B. OLD WINS BY ONE LENGTH. H. EVA OBTAINS FASTEST TIME. The Waitara Cycle and Athletic Club’s road races concluded on Thursday afternoon, when a 38-miles cycle race took place. The course was from Waitara to Motunui, back through Waitara to the Bell Block factory, back to Motunui and again to Bell Block and back to Waitara. The officials in charge were: Starter and time-keeper, Mr. R. Yardley; handicapper, Mr. T. D. Fowler; judges, Messrs. T. D. Fowler, Jas. Johnston and L. Andrews. The result was: B. Old (7im.) 1, E. Oliver (71m.) 2, H. Eva (3m.) 3. Also started: N. Bennett (3m.), E. Bowen (9Jm.), L. Drinkwater (18m.). Fastest time was secured by H. Eva, Ih. 37m. 16s. In the final sprint Old staved off a challenge by Oliver and won by a length. An exciting sprint took place for third place. Bowen entered the straight with a lead on Eva, but riding strongly, Eva caught him on the line and beat him by inches for third place.
