TE ROTI SCHOOL CONCERT

GOOD PROGRAMME PRESENTED. A.splendid concert in aid of the school funds was presented by pupils of Te Roti school. The pupils had been carefully trained for the concert and judging by the applause from the large audience, their efforts met with considerable appreciation. The concert programme was as follows: “God Defend New Zealand,” all the scholars; recitation, B. Condon; “Land of Nod,” senior girls; “Slumber Song,” infants; “Cochin China” (song and dance), seniors; “Fairy Tailor” (song and dance), infants; “Ten Little Nigger Boys” with chorus, boys; “Grandma,” action song, girls; fairy dance and song, infants; recitation, Marie Brunold; sailor song and action, infant boys; play, “Cophetua and the Beggar Maid,” seniors. The play reflected credit on the pupils and school staff. At the conclusion supper was served and a dance was held. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. Keith Cawsey, son of Mr. J. C. Cawsey, manager and secretary of the Hawera Gas Company Ltd., has been appointed manager of the Greytown gas works. Mr. Cawsey was for a number of years on the staff of the Hawera Gas Company. He will leave for Greytown early next week. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Vivian left last night to attend the Melbourne centenary celebrations. They will be away five or six weeks. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. A series of four euchre parties will be held in the Oeo Hall, commencing on Tuesday. Particulars are advertised. Smith and Trim, Ltd., Hawera, advertise particulars of their mart sales for today of fruit and produce, etc., at 11 a.m., and several good lines of laying fowls, seven goblers, process boards, Planet Jr. drill and cultivator, and usual lines of furniture and sundries at 1.30 p.m. MANAIA THEATRE. HAROLD LLOYD TO-NIGHT. Harold Lloyd is the wizard of screen l comedy art. First he lifts you up with s. laugh, then sets you down with a catch in your throat, then makes you burst qut in joyous glee, but most of all, keeps you happy, mirthfully happy. Just a small town boy who longed for screen glory and gets into many a comical scrape until he finds one who understands the secret ambitions of his heart. Harold Lloyd brings a tornado of laughs as the Hollywood-struck hee-hpe hero of “Movie Crazy” with Constance CumImings. Put this under your pillow and sleep on it—Harold Lloyd in “Movie Crazy,” with Constance Cummings, is at his funniest .at Manaia to-night.
