NEGLIGENT DRIVING
MOTOR LORRY STRIKES CAR. PROSECUTION AT TAUMARUNUI. (By Wire—Special to News.) Taumarunui, Last Night. Kuljas Rai Kapoor in the Taumarunui Magistrate’s Court this morning was charged with three breaches of the Motor Vehicles Regulations Act—driving a motor-lorry on the main road between Raurimu and Owhango on August 20 without a driver's license, negligently driving a motor-lorry and driving a motor-lorry not equipped with proper and sufficient brakes. Sergeant Harley said that Kapoor, who was driving a motor-lorry, bumped into the back of a stationary car near Manson’s Siding. The damaged car Was owned by Mr. B. Isaac, Taumarunui, and was parked on the correct side of • the road, there .being 14 feet clear between the car and the other side of the road. The luggage carrier at the rear of Isaac’s car was broken and the benzine tank and the back of the car were damaged. The brakes of the lorry were inspected by the traffic inspector and found to be inefficient, and the driver did not have a driver’s license. Kapoor was evidently driving in a negligent manner and narrowly missed colliding with another, car. After hearing the evidence of the traffic inspector, Mr. J. W. Kelly, D. Isaac, W. H. Wilson and Constable A. T. Breed, Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., said he con-sidered-Kapoor had driven in a negligent manner and was not fit to drive a lorry. Kapoor Was fined' £lO on the charge of negligent driving and prohibited from obtaining a driver’s license for five years.
