REVOLT QUELLED

LEADER SURRENDERS STILL SOUGHT BY TROOPS TRIAL BEFORE TRIBUNAL RESISTANCE EXHAUSTED AVOIDING OF SACRIFICES By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. Bee. 12.55 a.m. Madrid, Oct. 7. After bombarding the palace throughout the night General Batet sent an ultimatium to Don Companys at daybreak announcing that unless the rebels surrendered he would storm the palace. Don Companys complied, whereupon the Government ordered the arrest of Don Companys and Senor Azana, whom the troops are still seeking. All the Catalonian Ministers, it is understood, will be tried before a constitutional tribunal. Don Companys broadcast a message to Catalonians. "I surrendered to General Batet to avoid new sacrifices since our means of resistance are exhausted,” he announced. The Minister of the Interior simultaneously announced that Don Companys had surrendered to avoid useless resistance and distressing consequences. ‘‘Long live Spain and the republic,” he cried in conclusion. General Batet hastened to Gerona in the northern province of Catalonia, where it was reported a regiment had mutinied and murdered a general, two majors arid a captain. It is understood the President, Don Zamora, personally intervened to save Don Companys’ immediate court-martial and execution. Fifteen are reported to have been killed at the palace in the bombardment and 20 killed and wounded in fighting around the naval and air force barracks at Barcelona.
