NORTH ISLAND WHEAT
GROWERS DECLINE TO JOIN SOUTH BOARD, REPRESENTATION ASKED. , By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. North Island wheat-growers have unanimously decided to decline an invitation to link up with United Wheatgrowers Ltd. of the South Island. This decision was made by committees in Marton, Feilding, Manawatu and Wairarapa, following a recent visit by two South Island representatives of the Wheat Purchase Board to the North Island. They asked the North Island to join up. It was felt that the North Island growers had nothing to gain. It was also decided to send a deputation to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. R. Masters, to place before him their wish to be freed of the Wheat Purchase Board’s regulations or, if that were not possible, to secure North Island representation on the board. The Minister stated that the regulations must apply equally to both islands and there was no possibility of the North Island being excluded while the board was in existence. Regarding North Island representation, he said this was a matter for a Cabinet decision.
