CHILDREN’S CONCERT

EVERETT ROAD PERFORMANCE. • ■ / BENEFIT FOR SCHOOL FUNDS. Considering the number of pupils on the roll is only 24, the quality of the entertainment presented by the children of the Everett Road school recently was of a remarkably high standard. So sue-, cessful was it, indeed, that it is the intention of the committee to make it an annual fixture. The Waitui hall, in which the concert was held, was well filled, and as a result the general funds of the school benefited by a considerable amount. Every child, from the youngest to the oldest, had some part to perform in a programme notable for its variety. The concert was organised by Mrs. J. W. Wellington and Mr. J. A. Jennings, head teacher. Mr. F.. Bracegirdle, chairman of the school committee, acted as announcer. Besides a large number of solo items, the programme included a number of group items. There were folk dances and old-time dances in costume by the senior pupils and infants, choruses and recitations.

The concert was very efficiently stagemanaged, there being no delays in a programme calling for readiness and quickchanging. The pupils in the various items showed the benefit of careful coaching, being sure of their parts. The following individual numbers and duets were included in the programme: Recitations, Ernie Jennings, Irwin Bracegirdle, Olive Candy, Allison Phillips, G. Cooper, Valerie Jones, Nellie Bracegirdle, Rhoda Bracegirdle and Max Bracegirdle; songs, Valerie Jones, Betty Tuck, Phyllis Wellington, Allison Phillips; duets, Frank Candy and Phyllis Wellington, Jessie Candy and Nellie Bracegirdle, JeSsie, Maisie and Frank Candy; trio, “Red Riding Hood.” Accompaniments were played by Mrs. Wellington (piano) and Messrs. J. McAllister (violin) and J. Wellington (’cello). These also gave an instrumental trio. A violin solo was given by Mr. McAllister' and a piano solo by Jessie Candy.

To show the esteem in which Mrs. Wellington is held by pupils and adults, she was made a presentation by Jessie Bracegirdle on behalf of the children and their parents.
