FAMOUS GOLFERS

KIRKWOOD AND GENE SARAZEN. EXHIBITION GAME AT TITIRANGI. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Oct. 5. Joe Kirkwood and Gene Sarazen, famous professional golfers, arrived by the Monterey on the way to Melbourne, and they played an exhibition match at Titirangi this afternoon. They hope to return to New Zealand after the centenary celebrations. Kirkwood said that Sarazen was the outstanding golfer in the world to-day. Cotton played remarkable golf in beating him in the British open, but Sarazen would beat Cotton eight times out of ten. However, it was a good thing for golf that Cotton won. Kirkwood mentioned that he has played on 2200 courses.
