WOMEN’S DIVISION

Huinga: There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting. A bring and buy stall was well supported and the financial result was very satisfactory. Mrs. Rowe judged a competition for a plate of mixed biscuits, awarding Miss Loving first and Miss Leydon second. A competition was arranged by Mrs. White. Mrs. L. Marfell and Miss Leydon tied for first place. Stratford: The usual meeting of the Stratford branch was held on Tuesday and was well attended despite the stormy day. Two members were elected. In connection with annual shop day, it was decided to place on'record.the work done by Mrs. Wickham for several years in making the cakes. Last year she made over 1001 b. of cake. At a euchre party held during the month competitions for two shopping bags were won by Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Cleland. A presentation was made to Mrs. Martyn before her departure from the district. Prizes which were won in an art union were distributed by members. The secretary (Mrs. Lamplough) gave notice to move that the profit from the exchange be set aside to form the nucleus of a fund to obtain a building at Stratford suitable for carrying on business and to contain a clubroom for members of all branches of the division in Central Taranaki. Bell Block: The monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday afternoon, When Mrs. French presided over an attendance of 20. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs. Parkin in her illness. One new member, Mrs. Shallard, was welcomed. Arrangements were completed for the branch’s fourth anniversary, to be celebrated on Wednesday evening in the form of a euchre party and dance. Miss Muir, Brixton, gave a demonstration of the making of shopping bags, etc., from old motor tubes. Several finished articles . were displayed. Miss Muir was accorded a vote of thanks. The hostesses were Mesdames Street, Aitken, Western and Johns. A guessing competition was won by Mrs. T. French. It was arranged to hold the next meeting in the hall.
