Miss Buckley has returned from Wellington.

Mrs. W. Jobson returned home last week-end.

Mrs. Kirk, New Plymouth, is visiting Mrs. H. R. Kemp.

Mrs. A. F. Beck paid a brief visit to friends in Wanganui during the week.

Mrs. H. R. Kemp was hostess at afternoon tea on Monday.

Mrs. Thompson, Egmont Street, was hostess at tea on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. R. Wylie left recently on a short visit to Hawke’s Bay.

Mr£ R. S. Allwright has returned from Wellington.

Mrs. Giblin was hostess at tea on Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. G. Lovegrove, Auckland, arrived on Thursday, and is staying with her daughter, Mrs. A. F. Beck. Mrs. J. Syme, who has been on a week’s visit to Auckland, returned on Wednesday.

Mrs. H. Jenkins leaves on Monday next to spend a month with friends in. the Rangitikei district Mesdames R. Campbell, W. M. Winks, Ekdahl and H. H. Bramwell were among last week’s hostesses at tea.

Mr. and Mrs. Geddes, Auckland, were Mrs. J. H. Sutton’s guests at "Sunnydene” during the week.

Miss Helen Gard’ner, the judge in the drama league contests, returned to Wellington later in the week. Miss Joan Deare, New Plymouth, was Mrs. B. C. Bennett’s guest for the drama league festival.

Mr. and Mrs. Temple, Timaru, returned to Hawera early in the week to spend a few days before going south. Mrs. J. Robertson, Wellington, who has been Mrs. Simpson’s guest for the past few weeks, returned south on Thursday.

Miss' Althea Parker, Auckland, was Miss Constance Reilly’s guest for the drama league festival during the week. Miss Parker played the title role in the ■winning play, “Jael,” written by her mother. She left for Timaru on Thursday.

Wearing a smart black frock, with faint touches of red, Mrs. W. P. McAnerin was hostess at a jolly little party on Saturday evening for her daughter Ola and her young friends. Ping-pong games and dancing kepi everyone entertained.

Several people interested in dramatic art and stagecraft motored to Stratford on Monday and Tuesday to attend the lectures and classes given by Miss Helen Gard’ner, Wellington. The Hawera party included Mesdames W. Fyfe, B. C. Bennett, W. G. Strange and Misses D. Bryant, N. Turnbull, N. Kent, C. Reilly and D. Corrigan.

Miss Alison Kemp wore a tomato red marocain frock with a diagonal striped yolk, when she entertained Misses M. Black, R. Pease, J. Wylds, G. Goodson, K. Coleman, P. Lovell, C. Tonks and S. Lovell at tea on Wednesday. Flower' laden, cherry blossom sprays and bowls of Iceland poppies made bright decorations.

Vases of the decorative blue and white scilla and ranunculus were on the mantel and table in Mrs. C. Bayley’s sitting room on Friday, when Mesdames D. G. Smart, G. W. Powdrell, Oliver, A. Coleman, C. H. Washer, H. G. Whitehead, L. J. Bull and Misses N. Watty, Buchanan (2), M. Washer and J. MacDonald, were entertained at tea.

Quite a number of interested wellwishers assembled at the Scout Hall last Friday for a card party arranged by a committee of women to assist with funds for the incidental expenses of the Hawera party of boy scouts, which is to attend the jamboree at the Melbourne centenary. There were about twenty tables of flag bridge and five hundred in play, Mesdames R. R. Henderson, A. E. -Stevens and Meredith winning the bridge and Mesdames Wood, J. Ekdahl and Messrs. C. L. Sharp and Wood the five hundred.

Mrs., C. H. Washer invited several friends to tea on Wednesday afternoon, when the guests enjoyed a walk round the garden at “Brent Knoll.” The hostess wore a brown and gold toned gown in a plaid effect. Miss J. MacDonald wore a black and white georgette frock and Miss Molly Washer’s dress was fashioned in organdie of a delicate lilac shade. The flowers were beautiful, vases and bowls being arranged with pink cherry blossom,«blue argentine pea and wax white choysia. Mesdames A. Coleman, L. J. Bull, D. G. Smart, W. Hamilton, H. R. Kemp, H. G. Whitehead, G. A. Burgess and Misses N. Watty and L. Hay-Mackenzie were the guests. Mrs. L. J. Bull lent her home on Saturday afternoon last, when the committee of the Hawera Croquet Club organised a bring and buy afternoon in aid of club funds. Mrs. Bull, who acted as hostess, wore a georgette and black lace frock, and the club president, Mrs. W. G. Strange, a fawn beige silk gown, with tobacco brown coat and hat. Two competitions were run, Mrs. J. H. Fletcher arid Miss L. Hay-Mackenzie being the winners, and items were contributed by Miss Ethel Murdoch, songs, and Mrs. Strange, Miss Nancy Turnbull and Miss Joy Winks elocutionary items. Among those present were Mesdames Strange, A. E. Stevens, F. C. King, Adamson and Miss B. Young, Mesdames C. H. Washer, J. B. Murdoch, R. B. Douglas, J. E. Campbell, A. H. Guy, J. Ekdahl, G. H. Burgess, J. H. Fletcher, W. F. Buist, A. M. Winks, J. Robertson (Wellington), Nicholas, W. G. Simpson, and Misses Hay-Mackenzie, Turnbull, Cameron, M. Washer, M. Sutton and Murdoch. BRIDGE TOURNAMENT. Recent challenges in the yankee bridge tournament organised by the. club bridge circle have resulted: Mrs. W; W. Thomas and Miss H. Wood lost to Mrs. J. B. Murdoch and Miss M. Sutton; Mesdames G. J. Bayley and A. M. Young beat Mrs. Murdoch and Miss Sutton; Mesdames H. R. Kemp and H. G. Whitehead beat Mrs. A. Thomson and Miss C. Reilly; Mrs. Thomas and Miss Wood? lost to Mesdames H. D. Cameron and H. M. Besley; Mesdames C. Bayley and A. Evans beat Misses E. Murdoch and M. Strange; Mrs. Thomson and Miss Reilly beat Mrs. Thomas and Miss Wood; Mrs. A. E. Stevens and Miss B. Theed beat Mrs. R. R. Henderson and Miss J. MacDonald; Mesdames Dickie and J. E.
