Miss Helen Gardner was the guest of Mrs. D. Steven, Stratford. Mrs. H. Kirkwood entertained friends bn Monday afternoon.

- Miss Howard, Wanganui, has been staying with Mrs. B. Vinsen.

Mrs. Kopke and MisS B. Kopke have returned from a week-end visit to Wanganui.

Mrs. Loewenthal, New Plymouth, is staying with her mother, Mrs. W. Tunbridge. Miss Alice Kelly, who has been staying with her sister, Miss Kelly, Regan Street, has returned home to Lepperton. Mrs. Kopke, Mikahu, has been staying with her mother, Mrs. Lehman, Regan Street.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Leach passed through Stratford during the week en route for Wellington, whence they will leave for Melbourne to be present at the Centenary celebrations. Members of the Portland Club were entertained by Mrs. R. Curtis on Tuesday afternoon. Present were: Mesdames D. Malone, S. Coleman, F. Jeffries, L. Jardine, F. Cresswell, L. Furrie, D. Steven.

Among Stratford residents who attended the final session of the Drama League Festival at Hawera were: Mesdames Uniacke, E. H. Young, Bellringer, Beale, Amess, R. Carryer, H. Von Stunner, M. Phillips, N. H. Moss, Misses A., and C. Uniacke, M. Smart, M. Phillips, H. Barnham, I. Beale. The Anglican Mothers’ Union met on Friday afternoon, when there was a good attendance. Mrs. Cutfield, Mrs. Kowell, Mrs. Stephens and Miss Woods dispensed afternoon tea. Those present were Mesdames Cutfield, Rowell, Dixon, Childs, Erickson, Galbraith, Hewitt, Stephens, Irving, Jenkins, Johnson, Pugh, Thorpe, Coward, Algan, Aitkinson/ Le Compte, Lampshire, Jones, Patterson, Rogers, Wooliston, McDowall, Barton, Buckley, Townley, Speechley, Burgess, Misses Taylor and Woods. The Methodist Tennis Club opened on Thursday afternoon, when between 70 and 80 members and visitors were present. Some of thos§ present were Mesdames T. Skuse, F. T. McAlister, Silkey, Newton, Loving, Spencer, Corbett Despite the inclement weather there was a large gathering at the Masonic hall on Monday when the Forty Social Club held another social evening. Mrs. H. North and Mrs. W. Harris were hostesses. Mrs. North wore a frock of black lace and silk over a foundation of gold, and Mrs. Harris lime green georgette and lace, with a green panne velvet coatee. Songs were given by Mrs. Stephens, Messrs. H. North, A. R. Masters and W. Hoskin. Mrs. A. R. Masters played the accompaniments. Supper was provided. Dance music Was played by the Thistle orchestra. Present were Mesdames North, Harris, D. McCready, A. R. Masters, B. Armstrong, R. Macßae, T. Alston, J. Petrie, junr., and Stephens. A “bring-and-buy” afternoon held at S. Mary’s on Thursday was well attended. Good business was done. Miss . Wilson and Miss Beswick were hostesses. Among the guests were Mesdames S. Porrit, W. H. H. Young, L. Jardine, L. Furrie, J. Richards, M. Red tulips, camellias and maiden-hair fern made attractive decorations in the library of the High School on Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs. A. H. R. Amess and Mrs. F. Bowler were hostesses at a farewell afternoon party for Mrs. J. C. McDowell and Mrs. Turner. Presentations were made to the guests of honour. Mrs. McDowell received a purse and Mrs. Turner a book.
