Mrs. Hamlin entertained friends on Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. F. Barnard was hostess at an enjoyable afternoon on Tuesday. Mrs. L. Bocock returned on Friday from a short holiday at Inglewood. Mrs. M. Carrick left on Thursday to spend a holiday with Miss A. King, New Plymouth.
Mrs. C. Veale, who has been spending a holiday at Tauranga, has returned to Waitara.
Miss A. Bocock, Inglewood, was the guest of Mrs. L. Bocock last week-end. Miss A. Wells has returned from a visit to Nelson.
Miss Joyce Turner returned to AuckIdhd on Wednesday after spending her vacation with her mother Mrs. W. Turner.
A jolly evening given by members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association for their wives was held in the Soldiers’ Club on Monday. There were cards, community singing and dancing. Mrs. Gellespie gave a vocal solo. Mrs. A. Andersen played for the community singing.
On Wednesday an enjoyable gift afternoon in aid of the forthcoming rose show was held in St. John’s hall. Items were given by Mrs. Cuming (recitation) and Mesdames Whyte and Locke (instrumental number). There was community singing. Winners of the competitions were Mrs. W. Nosworthy and Miss B. Rattenbury. Tea was served by members of the ladies’ guild. The last of the series of community sings was held in the Methodist social hall on Wednesday evening. Vocal items were given by Mrs. W. Smaill and Miss E. Fraser, a pianoforte duet by Mrs. A. Andersen and Miss Thelma Cuming. A playette, “The Three Widows,” was presented by Mesdames Cuming, Cramer and Neil.
