"DISGRACEFUL CONDITION”
STRATFORD TENNIS COURTS.
COMPLAINT MADE BY MAYOR.
“I don’t think the tennis club deserves much consideration from us because I regard those co'urts as an eye-sore," stated the Mayor, Mr. J. W. McMillan, at the Stratford Domain Board meeting last night when the planting of a hedge by the courts was being considered. “The appearance of those courts to-day is no better than it was years ago,” he continued, “and it is a disgrace to the club. ' Efforts have been made to establish grass courts and they are worse than ever, while the asphalt section is always untidy. It is in a disgraceful condition.”
He moved that the board pay half the cost of the hedge plants and the planting. . . . ..
Cr. A. H. Trotter made similar observations about the appearance of the courts.
Cr. W. P. P. Gordon: Have we any control over the club?
The town clerk: The club pays £25 a year and is supposed to keep its areain order. ’
Cr. Gordon: The board has the right to insist on the work’s being done. The Mayorr We have the right to put them off if we want to. Cr. A. H. Nelson asked if the board incurred any expense. “Npt exactly,” replied the Mayor. “Are we not losing money on the debentures?” Cr. Harkness inquired. Cr. Trotter: They have sold them. The Mayor’s motion was carried.
